Everybody knows about the biblical miracle of Jesus turning wine into water.

But 120 people went a step further at St Mary’s Church, Bletchley on Saturday.

They turned wine into donations for charity – £2,000 worth to be precise.

The wine tasting evening was organised by Hope Outreach UK to pay for nutritional feeding centres to be set up in poverty-stricken east and south Sri Lanka.

The charity, run by City GP Sam Muthuveloe, will feed and care for children aged between three and five to allow their mothers to work.

“The children are from a very poor socio-economic and disadvantaged group as the parents have suffered badly from the terrible tsunami, painful civil war and multiple displacements,” said Dr Sam.

He plans to set up two feeding centres to cater for 80 children.

Donations to Hope Outreach can be made online at wwww.hopeoutreach.org.uk, or cheques can be sent in the post to Free Post Licence no: MK 1840,Great Linford,Milton Keynes MK14 5BR.

The charity can be emailed at contact@hopeoutreach.org.uk.
