The estate branded the most deprived place in Milton Keynes has been granted £8,600 to splash out on a day of fabulous fun for all its residents.

Beanhill’s Biggest Fun Day will reward locals ‑ known as Beanies ‑ for their loyalty and community spirit.

Despite the consistent ‘worst place to live’ branding from official Social Altas statistics, Beanies have always refused to be daunted.

Sue Smith, who chairs Beanhill Action Group said: “Beanhill has the tightest community spirit in Milton Keynes. There’s so much going on here and everybody joins in. It’s just brilliant.”

Beanies even organise their own night patrols to ensure the estate is trouble free. As a result, the crime rate is extremely low, said Sue.

She and her team secured a lottery grant of £7,101 to fund this year’s fun day. MK Community Foundation contributed £930, Woughton community Council £500 and Community First gave £100.

The focus of the fun day, to be held on July 12, will be a massive It’s a Knockout competition between teams from 10 estates and organisations.

Every patch of green on the estate will be filled with huge inflatables, stalls, rides and entertainment -including Sam the Land Train and the Play Rangers.
