Wrap Up and run for Age UK

PEOPLE are being encouraged to wrap up to help spread the warmth for Age UK this weekend.

The charity’s Wrap Up and Run 10k event is taking place at Willen Lake on Sunday and people can still sign up online.

It is part of a national series of 10k and 2k fundraising runs held in February and March. The money raised will go towards keeping thousands of old people warm throughout the colder, winter months.

BBC radio personality, Liz Kershaw, will be starting the race which will be open to fun runners, joggers and serious athletes.

One woman who has already signed up is Kathleen Kirkland.

She said: “A lot of the time Age UK gets forgotten because people just assume that people get old and die.

“Age UK provides a lifeline for the elderly and infirm and supports them so they can stay at home, rather than go to a home. It is so much more comfortable for them.”

In the last few years Kathleen has raised money for other charities close to her heart, including Sue Ryder Care who provided excellent care for her late mother.

However, when a friend told her of the great work Age UK did for people, some of which she didn’t know were available, her mind was made up.

She said: “Vulnerable people are helped to find electricians, plumbers and all kinds of trusted services so they are not ripped off. I would urge as many people as possible to sign up. We will all be old one day.”

The 10k event costs £16 to sign up and people can do just that by contacting the events team at 10k@ageuk.org.uk or online at www.ageuk.org.uk/10k or by calling 0800 169 8787.
