Yes m'Lord, you are a titled Scottish aristocrat...

...Even though you only own a square foot of land

A postman and a secretary are winning new respect from their colleagues after becoming an official Lord and Lady.

Lord Frederick Finch was just plain old Fred until he hit upon the idea of buying a single square foot of deepest Scotland to win him an instant ancestral title.

Now he is busy changing his name by deed poll, along with his passport, driving licence and work documents.

His wife Caroline, now Lady Finch, said: ""He likes to look at silly things on the Internet.

"He stumbled on this offer a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be fun."

She admits her new title has caused huge merriment at the Open University, where she works in the health and social care section.

"My colleagues really take the mickey. They stuck a notice on the door the other day saying Lady Caroline Finch, and they keep asking me whether or not they should curtsy when they see me."

Mr Finch, whose full title is Lord of Lachaber, works as an internal postman for KPMG financial specialists.

His 46-year-old Lady said: "Sadly we don't live in a stately home. Our ancestral pile is a small three bedroom house on Emerson Valley.

"And we don't have anything grand – although my mum did buy me a fake tiara for Christmas.

"Fred really just did it for a laugh. But I think he's hoping people might be impressed with his new title – and we might even get upgraded to first class flights when we go on holiday."
