Youngsters encouraged to vote for new Youth Cabinet

Youth Parliament elections

Youth Parliament elections

CITY youngsters are being encouraged to vote in the Youth Cabinet and Youth Parliament elections, writes Charles Crook.

Candidates aged 11 to 19 will stand for election to the Milton Keynes Youth Cabinet and the UK Youth Parliament.

Youth Cabinet members will aim to make the new city a better place for young people to live. They will consult with councillors and council workers to help them achieve their goals, and also have the support of a number of council youth workers.

The Youth Parliament candidates will share the concerns of young people nationwide with government officials and service providers, and will also debate in the House of Commons.

Youth Participation Worker for Milton Keynes Council’s Youth Service, Emma Hosking, said: “We want all young people in Milton Keynes to be able to choose the people who they think would best represent young people in Milton Keynes and will do the best job they can.

“If you are aged 11-19, you can vote for any MK Youth Cabinet candidate in your area and any of the UK Youth Parliament candidates, you don’t necessarily have to vote for the candidates who are in your school.”

All youngsters aged 11-18 are eligible to vote, and they will have over 40 candidates to choose from.

Schools in the North Milton Keynes ward will be voting on February 4 to February 8 with results for their Youth Cabinet announced on Friday, February 15.

Schools in the Central Milton Keynes ward will be voting on February 11 to February 15 with Cabinet results announced on Monday, February 25.

Students in South Milton Keynes ward vote in the Youth Parliament elections only, and will be doing so on February 25 to March 1 with the results announced on March 8.
