HUNDREDS of members of the Zainabiya Islamic Centre staged a tribute to one of the leading figures of Islam – known for piety, kindness and love.
A symbolic peaceful procession was led from the centre, in Granby, at 12.30pm.
The group, wearing black and carrying a host of different flags and banners, marched up and down Peverel Drive handing out flyers to the public to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Imam Hussain; the grandson of the Holy Prophet of Islam.
President of Zainabiya Islamic Centre, Shabir Sabur, said: “Being born into a holy and exemplified household, people are attracted towards Hussain for his teachings, generosity and wisdom. He served the people as a leader – promoting and upholding many universal principles.
“Hussain is revered as the paragon of equality and justice. His revolution against injustice and oppression and life-long service to humanity has inspired devotion to humanitarian service and reform amongst generations of Muslims and non-Muslims globally.
“We commemorate within the centre, but the story of Hussain is not an Islamic story, it is one of humanity. That is why we have left our own gates and peacefully walked down the street.”
