A 61-year-old man has received a caution for wasting police time in connection with a reported theft.

The man had reported to police that he had been robbed of the weekend takings when he went to pay them into a building society on Wednesday.

Police believed the report to be false and after being questioned in custody the man admitted the offence and was cautioned.

The money has been recovered.

Detective Constable Dave Phipps from Milton Keynes police station said: “This man has wasted police resources that could have been needed somewhere else in resolving far more serious issues.

“I hope he has learnt his lesson, but anyone wasting police time will be dealt with robustly.”
