An eight-year-old girl was the victim of an attempted abduction in Oxley Park yesterday.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which took place between 6pm and 6.30pm and saw a man, who was driving a small green car, approach the girl and grab her arm.
She had been playing in the street in Raft Way when she decided to cycle to a nearby shop. The man approached her as she got to the junction with Fonda Meadows. He grabbed her arm but she pulled away before cycling home.
He was described as white with a tan, in his late 30s or early 40s, with brown, collar length wavy hair with blond highlights, with an earring in his right ear.
He was wearing a light-blue Lacoste top with two buttons, light black jeans and a grey watch.
The car was a four-door model, possibly lime green, with a dent in the rear offside and scratches on the back near to the roof.
Detective Inspector Nick Glister said: “Incidents of this nature are extremely rare and I would like to reassure local residents that we have a team of detectives investigating and I urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to us.
“The local neighbourhood team will be carrying out patrols and if anyone has any concerns I would urge them to approach their local officers and discuss these with them.”
Any witnesses can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
