The body of a 70-year-old man has been recovered from a section of the River Ouse in Stony Stratford.

The man was identified yesterday afternoon as Harold James Bailey who, it is believed, was a local man.

A member of the public reported seeing Mr Bailey’s body in the river close to Calverton Road just after 10.30am on Sunday.

Police arrived on the scene, removed the body from the river and carried out an investigation with the area closed to the public for a short time.

Officers are treating the death as ‘unexplained’ and have said that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. An inquest into the man’s death will be opened on Friday morning at the city’s coroner’s court.
