A NEW branch of the United Nations Association will help ‘promote a safer, fairer and more sustainable world’ – from the humble surroundings of Central Milton Keynes.
The MK branch of the UNA will be run by Milton Keynes Equality Council and based in its offices in Silbury Court West.
Current equality council chairman Navrita Atwal will also chair the new association.
She will be assisted by Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Catriona Morris, who will serve as Honorary President.
This week members of the UNA visited the Mayor’s office to officially welcome her to the association.
Mrs Morris said: “I am delighted that a number of local bodies have chosen to involve the mayor in an honorary role within their organisation.
“As this is a brand new association, I am particularly pleased that the Milton Keynes mayoralty will play a significant role in its development.”
Mrs Atwal said: “The UNA MK branch will support principles and practices of the UN to promote a safer, fairer and more sustainable world by supporting activities and campaigns in promoting good local and international relations.
“UNA MK is an organisation that thinks locally but acts and works globally.”
Mrs Atwal is calling for new members to join and support the work of UNA MK.
