A COUNCILLOR who represents Newport Pagnell has registered a major success in his campaign against rush hour traffic.
Liberal Democrat councillor Douglas McCall launched a campaign to change the road markings at the Tickford Roundabout on London Road, Newport Pagnell, to help reduce queuing times at busy, rush hour periods.
The roundabout leads out of Newport Pagnell towards Olney and Junction 14 for the M1.
He was upset that people had started to ruin areas of green space in an attempt to beat the jams by driving on the grass verges as they make their way around stationary traffic.
Mr McCall said: “At rush hour the traffic has to queue as the approach to the roundabout isn’t wide enough. Some vehicles mount the grass verge to get around the queue.
“I suggested to the council that they widen the road on the approach to allow for left turn, straight on and right turn traffic. I am really pleased that the council has agreed to do this work. It should make a big difference to those stuck in the queues.”
The work will begin on August 15 and will take around 10 days.
The decision to carry out the work now, in the quieter school holiday period, will mean that morning traffic will be less affected.
