COUNCILLOR Vanessa McPake has said she is sad to have lost her seat after a close fought race in Walton Park.

Mrs McPake, who is the cabinet member for Transport, lost her seat to conservative candidate Lee Barney, by just 204 votes, after registering a total of 1,500 votes to his winning tally of 1,704.

However, she said she was pleased with the work she had been involved in over the past three or four years throughout the city as well as in her ward.

She said: “I am very sad not to be a councillor representing the people of the Walton Park area as I have thoroughly enjoyed working with a number of people on various projects.

“I am delighted on one hand as the number of votes I received actually went up. I am just saddened that some of the voting patterns across the city seemed to be linked with the AV votes.”
