Men, say it with a car exhaust!

STAFF at a flower shop have thought of a unique way to encourage men to visit their store – in time for Valentine’s Day.

Brenda Gregory, owner of Bluebell Flowers in Newport Pagnell, has placed various car parts in the shop window to encourage men to think romantically and buy flowers for the girl in their life.

Brenda said: “We found out through national statistics that 65 per cent of men have never been in a flower shop. I don’t know if it is considered ‘girly’ to visit a flower shop but personally I don’t think men should be afraid of it.”

In the run up to Valentine’s Day the shop has seen a big increase in business but still expects an even bigger rush as the big day approaches.

Brenda said: “We usually see a big rush a couple of days before because people are looking to get last minute gifts for partners but we want people to know there is nothing wrong with coming to a flower shop.

“The idea of the display is to get people talking and get them to come in and have a look around. We are interested in changing the national statistic and getting as many men as possible in here before it’s too late and they’re getting them Monday morning at a petrol station garage.”

Brenda added: “We will have to think of lots more way of boosting business for the future because we want this level of interest to last throughout the year.

“We hope this campaign will get people talking enough to want to come back for the rest of 2011.”
