A family of eight had their lives turned upside down two years ago when their seven year old daughter was diagnosed with a genetic disorder affecting her mobility.
But the family of Millie D’Cruz had something to smile about last weekend as they were cherry picked to be named the Lakeside’s Family of the Year and asked to officially open the new look £275,000 Fayre & Square pub.
The Parsley-D’Cruz family - Dad Phil, Mum Twila with daughters, Danielle, 17, Shannon, 16, Millie, 7 and Kadea, 18 months, and sons Kyle, 10, and three-year-old Kaeden - were given the honour by the Willen Lake pub as recognition for the hard work, commitment and consistent strength of the family as they support Millie with her condition, Metachromatic Leukodystrophy.
New general manager of the Lakeside, David Hutcheson, said: “The Lakeside has really got off to a great start and we were so pleased to welcome the Parsley-D’Cruz family to be our VIPs.
“They have been through some extremely tough times and have been working tirelessly to drum up support and funds to help Millie. We felt they more than deserved a little extra special treatment and are proud to name them our Family of the Year.”
The family has also been put forward for the nationwide competition to be crowned Fayre & Square’s Family of the Year, which will conclude in June 2012.
The family have also set up a trust, Millie’s Fund, to generate essential funds needed to support the costs of Millie’s medical and special equipment needs. If you would like to donate to the charity please visit: www.helpmillie.co.uk
