Milton Keynes Co-op store to re-open after £630,000 investment

A funding boost will be on the cards for community groups in Milton Keynes when the new-look Great Linford Co-op re-launches on Friday (Dec 2) following a £630,000 investment.

Local good causes will have until December 16 to apply to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund – the community retailer’s new Membership scheme sees members receive a 5% reward on purchases of own-branded products and services, with a further 1% going local causes and groups to make a difference in the community.

Groups locally who are currently benefitting include the Great Linford Memorial Hall and Great Linford Pre-School – money will be raised over a six month period, and the Co-op is now calling for new local good causes to apply to benefit.

The new-look store in Ledger Court will have a focus on fresh, healthy foods, meal ideas and essentials.

The store has also appointed two Community Pioneers, Charlotte Barrett and Nyall Lewis, members of the food store team also working to foster involvement in community activities, from local fundraising to working with charities, schools and voluntary organisations to contribute to local life.

“Making such a significant investment in Great Linford is an exciting time for the whole team – our ambition is to establish the store as a local hub, a real asset for the community,” said store manager

Jon Hamilton.

“The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. The return to our ‘clover leaf’ design logo – first used in the 1960’s - aims to re-establish the Co-op as a centre for the community, and we want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. We are also giving back to the community. Our members have an opportunity to make a difference locally simply by using their membership card when they shop with us and raise much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”
