The win – courtesy of Hollywood Bowl, Milton Keynes – came as a massive surprise to Martin, Samantha; his wife of 22 years, and their two children, 17-year-old Enya and Adam,15.

The win was a wonderful surprise for the family, who have had a difficult few years.

Adam was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2010 and soon after, in the run up to Christmas, Martin suffered a heart attack.

Thankfully, both have made a full recovery, and Adam was given his five year all clear just a few months ago.

“This really is a dream come true for our family, the past few years have been hard on us all and it’s great to see things are on the up,” said Martin.

“We’ve always been a strong team and have overcome a lot. This holiday will be a celebration of how far we’ve really come.”

The 49 year old was bowling with his family at the Hollywood Bowl in Xscape when he scored a strike and was invited to enter the ‘Trip of a Lifetime’ competition. His wife Samantha filled out the scratch card entry form and neither thought much more of it until this week.

Mr Savage continued: “To be honest I completely forgot about it, I didn’t think anyone ever won these things! I got a phone call from Hollywood Bowl to tell me we’d won and I was so excited to tell my wife but had to wait until lunchtime, as she’s a teaching assistant.

“It was a long few hours but she was delighted. We both decided to wait until dinner that evening to tell the kids and they were over the moon too!”

The family attended Hollywood Bowl in Milton Keynes on Friday, where they were treated to a VIP bowling experience and presented with their boarding pass.
