Milton Keynes Gallery has announced a new ‘Family in Residence’ programme, which has been launched by the Aylard Family from Oxley Park.

They began a three month residency in April, marking the start of a pilot residency that will involve families, staff and artists in the co-creation of whole family events that meet the needs and interests of its communities.

Each of the four participating families taking up the challenge over the following 12 months will be assigned an MK Gallery Associate Artist to work with, and they will be commissioned to deliver a one-off public event at the end of their residency.

“As part of our City Club project whilst MK Gallery is being renovated and expanded, we are testing different ways of including our communities in the co-creation of our learning programme,” said the gallery’s learning coordinator Bethany Mitchell.

“Every three months we will recruit a different family and partner them with one of our Associate Artists for bespoke, exploratory workshops where they will identify subjects, themes, media and techniques that interest them.

“Inspired by their creative sessions they will then conceive and commission the delivery of an open, family learning session at the end of their residency, that could appeal to the whole family, from babies and toddlers through to grandparents.”
