A man has been fined almost £800 after he dumped his car on a residential street, just minutes from a busy A&E.

Zain Hussain of Church Street, Milton Keynes was ordered to pay £776 at Luton Magistrates Court after being found guilty of abandoning a vehicle.

Hussain failed to attend court and was found guilty in his absence of abandoning his vehicle in Victoria Road near Bedford Hospital in July last year.

The court heard Hussain’s vehicle was reported as abandoned and when a council officer inspected the vehicle it was found to be covered in mould and neither taxed nor had an MOT.

A letter was sent to him, requesting he remove his vehicle but Hussain failed to do so.

Magistrates imposed a fine of £440 and Mr Hussain was also ordered to pay £292 in costs and a £44 victim surcharge.

Deputy Mayor at Bedford Borough Council, Charles Royden said: “Bedford Borough Council has a zero tolerance attitude towards people who dump cars.

“It is not only inconsiderate to residents but can also obstruct roads, driveways and footpaths, not to mention parking spaces.

“Anyone who dumps a car in Bedford Borough can expect to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
