Scrabble ace Austin Shin is ready to battle it out against hundreds of players for the dream accolade of World Scrabble Champion at the MSI World Championships in Lille, France later this month.

Twenty-six year old Austin, from Milton Keynes, works as a financial controller for a logistics company by day.

But he has been playing the game competitively from a young age, winning the Junior Scrabble Championship at the age of nine.

Austin is currently rated ninth amongst UK players so will be well placed to take on other players.

This prestigious event which starts on August 27 will see accomplished Scrabble players from around the world compete against each other for the games most sought after title.

With events in Catalan, English, French, German, Norwegian and Spanish, this year’s championship is set to break all records.

The championship will kick off with the World Youth Scrabble Championship followed by the International World Championship consisting of three divisions including the MSI World Pairs Championships, and for the first time online individual and team championships.

Additional tournaments, including international language-specific events will, take place each day, providing players of all levels and abilities, including those from non-English speaking countries to participate.

Throughout the championships, players will compete in more than 24 rounds of Scrabble in order to qualify for the seeded play-offs.

The eight top placed participants will proceed to the play-offs and the ultimate champion will be announced on the 4th September.

Past champions and lexicological experts participating from the UK will compete against a multitude of players from 27 countries who will go head to head for the Scrabble crown, as well as the opportunity to play and win a share of a prize pool worth €25,000.
