Milton Keynes Mayor visits Europe's first tradtional Hindu temple

Mayor of Milton Keynes Steve Coventry, together with Mayoress Liane Lacey, visited Europe's first traditional Hindu Temple last week.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, popularly – known as the Neasden Temple - is the place of worship for the Hindu community in Milton Keynes.

A spokesman explained: “The Mandir is a Hindu place of worship, a place where the mind becomes still and the soul floats freely to seek the source of life, bliss and meaning.

“It is a place where people can unite to serve The Lord and society.”

The visit was organised by the MK BAPS Swaminarayan Cultural Centre in order to coincide with the celebrations to mark 50 years of Milton Keynes.

Mayor Steve Coventry said: “The foundations on which this movement was formed are integrity, faith, teamwork, volunteerism and respect shown to one and all.
“This concept is brilliant in everyway and can be witnessed at the Mandir - it is spectacular from the outside and magical from the inside.”

The Mayor also cited the example of enshrining a strong diverse culture, clearly evident at the heart of the community in Milton Keynes.

The Mayoress added: “We are thoroughly and truly inspired by your work for the community. We could all share from your example.”
