He told Nick he “did not want to talk about his personal life”.

“I guess I wouldn’t like to talk about my family because it’s kind of private really, so you know what I mean?” he said.

The radio host told him: “I’ve shaped this interview to talk about you as a person, about what’s behind your music and talk about your story. If you want to answer those questions, that’s fine James...If you don’t we can end the interview.”

Seconds later the interview ended. Scheduled to last for up to 25 minutes, it lasted just three minutes.

James McCartney, who has battled a drug addiction and had a famous fall-out with Sir Paul, wanted promote his album The Blackberry Train, which will be released today.
