Milton Keynes solicitor for elderly suspected of dishonesty

A city solicitor who specialises in helping elderly and vulnerable clients has been suspended for alleged dishonesty.

Susan Lowe’s offices were closed suddenly by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and all her paperwork seized.

Already four people are making compensation claims against her company, Lowe and Co, which practiced from Newport Pagnell.

One victim claims his family was left tens of thousands of pounds out of pocket

“We trusted her to look after the affairs of my 94-year-old grandmother, who had dementia. But she took us for a real ride,” he alleged.

“It was only after my grandmother died three weeks ago that we realised the true extent of the problem.

“A huge amount of money is unaccounted for. We have a massive backdated bill for my grandmother’s care and there’s not even any money to pay for the funeral.”

The victim claims Ms Lowe went to the Court of Protection and gained power of attorney for his grandmother’s finances without the consent– or even knowledge – of the family.

They, like many other clients, recruited Ms Lowe because of her specialism in elderly people.

Lowe and Co’s adverts state: “Susan is an experienced solicitor who has always specialised in will, lasting powers of attorney, probate and elder client matters.”

This week a spokesman for the Solicitors Regulatory Authority confirmed they had closed the company on the grounds of suspected dishonesty.

They said: “The ground for intervention is reason to suspect dishonesty of the part of Susan Lowe.”

All client monies in the company account, along with paperwork and documents, have been handed to SRA-appointed agents Gordons LLP to deal with.

Four people are already making claims against Lowe and Co from the SRA’s special compensation fund.
