Milton Keynes Townswomen Guild (MKTG) welcomed Iain Stewart MP for Milton Keynes South to give a talk on the role of an MP and to discover more about what MKTG get up to.
Townswomen was formed to educate them in the principles of good citizenship and still today it is committed to achieving equal status for women and fights nationally on many issues, which affect women and men alike.
After giving the speech, Iain Stewart said: “It was a real pleasure to come and meet with MKTG.
“They are fantastic group and from what I have heard this evening they are doing some important work raising awareness for charities such as SERV Blood bikes.”
MKTG was first set up in early 2013 however, the Townswomen movement can trace its routes as far back as 1865.
“We were all delighted to have Iain come along today,” said Laura Clarkson, current Chair of the group.
“Although our group is fairly young we are growing quickly and to have the local MP come along to meet us was fantastic.
“We have a strong, friendly group at MKTG and new members are always welcome. We have done a pottery class, rock climbing and even tried pole dancing!”
