UNATTENDED doctors appointments are costing the NHS nearly £50,000.
Nearly 2,000 GP appointments at just one of the borough’s 28 GP practices were missed over a six month period.
The cost of these missed appointments equates to about £50,000 in GPs time.
The practice’s patients are campaigning for people to let their practice know when they no longer need an appointment so that someone else can use it.
Maggie Weston, a member of Stantonbury Health Centre’s Patient Participation Group (PPG) said: “We mustn’t take the NHS for granted, but remember that even the services we don’t directly pay for cost money.
“Missing a GP appointment is inconsiderate towards the GP and towards other patients who could have used that appointment.
“On behalf of practices across the borough I am asking patients to make sure they cancel appointments they no longer need.”
If you need to cancel an appointment, wherever possible give your practice at least 24 hours’ notice so they can offer your slot to someone who really needs it.
