Students at MK College were celebrating today after achieving some very pleasing A Level results.
One student, Charlotte Appleby, who is just 16, was collecting results for three AS Level exams for which she got a D in psychology and two As in Sociology and English.
She said: “I am very happy with my results. I didn’t think I’d pass psychology. Next year I will be studying Sociology and English and starting History as well.”
Christina Coupland, 21, was there collecting her results with three-year-old daughter Mariah and was unaware of how good her results were. She achieved three As in Business, Psychology and Sociology and a B in Law, earning her a place at Loughborough University and a cuddle from Mariah.
She said: “I did A levels straight from school but my heart wasn’t really in it and I didn’t know what I really wanted. I was working part time and after I had my daughter it gave me the motivation to change my life.
“I’ve got into Loughborough University and I’ll be studying Business retail and Marketing.”
Hayden Peerless was also collecting AS level results and the 20-year-old got an A in accounts, an A in Chemistry, and a B in Biology. He will now study the same again next year with a view to studying Chemistry at Sheffield or Cardiff where he will hope to go on to become a research or analytical chemist.
Duncan Lovell, head of department, said more people need to be made aware of the option of college.
He said: “I am very pleased with the results but more people need to know it’s an option. Half of the students come here straight from school and it is here for those at 16 but people don’t just do vocational courses there are academic ones here as well.
“People who come here have done well in a range of courses including Forensic science, Linguistics, Criminology and Public Health and they all get the same support here.”
