MK Dons goalkeeper causes a buzz with Busy Bees Nursery visit

Busy Bees nursery in Browns Wood recently welcomed new parents and children through its doors for a fun-packed week of activities to introduce a new way of involving parents in everyday life at nursery.

Throughout the Enrolment Week, staff at the nursery hosted interactive activities ranging from a Wild Welly Wednesday, Tuff Spot sessions and exciting Science activities to introduce parents to its new method of recording children’s observations in nursery. The newly designed learning journal itself will allow each child’s key person to share photographs, observations, learning activities with parents. The learning journal will help to promote a consistent two-way communication and ensure that parents never miss out on important milestones or “wow moments” while away from their children.

Parents were able to drop in during the interactive activities, giving them a chance to see how observations are recorded and how foundation stage frameworks and characteristics of effective learning are assessed and communicated to parents.

The children and staff also enjoyed a special visit from the Milton Keynes Dons – coaches and current goalkeeper, Charlie Burns, held a training session with the children to teach them the basics of football and importance of teamwork.

Lisa Snell, Early Years Director at Busy Bees, explains: “We believe in enhancing the communication between our staff and parents whenever we can to further benefit a child’s learning journey.

“The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum means that our nursery staff carry out regular observations of every child, ensuring that their learning and development incorporates their interests and needs as well as recording special moments in their development. The evidence collected from these observations is analysed regularly to make assessments of the children’s learning and development.”

The new learning journal will show assessments grouped together so progression can clearly be seen by the parent in addition to a tracking sheet which will show a record of the child’s progress in the prime and specific areas of learning.
