PEOPLE will soon be able to get their hands on their own Olympic gold and silver thanks to Mark Lancaster.
The city MP presented his Private Member’s bill on Tuesday, February 17. It will enable the Royal Mint to make gold £1,000 and silver £500 coins weighing more than a kilogram each.
The money raised from the coins will help fund London 2012. Mr Lancaster told the House of Commons the coins were significant as the city is home to what is thought to be the oldest gold coin, a second century gold stater.
