A huge power battle erupted between MPs and members of the House of Lords this week, but it was ll in the name of charity.
MP Iain Stewart joined his colleagues to defeat members of the House of Lords in a tug of war to raise money for cancer charity Macmillan.
Members of both Houses take part in the annual competition that has been running for more than 25 years. For the second year running the Lords were defeated by the Commons.
Commenting on their success, Mr Stewart said: “This was a fun way to raise money for a really worthy cause. Macmillan does an invaluable work supporting patients and their families through a difficult time and I know they do loads locally through the unit at the hospital. Last year, we helped raise £100, 000 and I understand that we have surpassed that figure this year.”
