YOUTH unemployment in the city has fallen by just under a third since November last year, according to recent figures from the Office of National Statistics.
The report shows a drop of 32.7 per cent in the number of people aged 18-24 who are claiming Jobseekers Allowance (JSA).
The total number of JSA claimants for the city also dropped by 15.2 per cent compared with this time last year.
MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart, welcomed this development.
He said: “I am pleased Milton Keynes is living up to its reputation as the best place to lead the country out of economic difficulties. The feedback that I have received recently from local businesses is that trading conditions are improving.
“Of course, we cannot be complacent as there is still room for improvement, particularly with youth unemployment. However, I am glad that more employers are locating their businesses in our city and those already here are considering expanding,” he added.
