MARK Lancaster has praised the city’s council for publishing its expenditure.

MP for Milton Keynes North, Mr Lancaster, has now encouraged other councils around the country to follow suit.

During Prime Minister’s questions on Wednesday, Mr Lancaster highlighted how Milton Keynes Council now publishes all of its receipts over £500. He also asked what was being done to make sure other authorities were doing the same.

David Cameron responded by saying that there is transparency from almost every single council in the country, saying it was the only way to make sure that money was going on services rather than salaries and bureaucracy.

Mr Lancaster said: “I am delighted the Government has been able to effect this change. It is right that councils publish their receipts – after all, this is residents’ money, they have a right to know how it is being spent.

“This and other Coalition measures signify a move towards a fairer, more efficient politics. I am glad the city has led the way in this.”
