IT was supposed to be the happiest day of her life last Friday, but Erin Pezzella sadly passed away three days before her wedding.
Erin lost her three-year battle with cancer on Tuesday September 6. She had been due to marry her long-term partner Matt just days later.
“She will leave a massive hole in all our lives,” said sister Joanne. “We will make sure her daughters carry on and remember their mum.
She leaves behind two daughters, four-year-old Isabella and Ava, who is 18 months old.
“Erin was caring, funny, loud and loved life. She was diagnosed three years ago with breast cancer but never let it faze her.”
Erin’s name has been all over the world this weekend after her employees, Red Bull Racing in Tilbrook, dedicated their victory at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday to the 31-year-old.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner paid tribute to Erin, dedicating Sebastian Vettel’s Italian Grand Prix victory to her.
He said: “Very sadly, we lost a team member earlier in the week, Erin Pezzella, a young lady who has been with the team for five years.
“She lost a very brave fight against cancer and we would like to dedicate this result in her memory.”
And Erin’s family were shocked to hear her name in the aftermath of the race, but were honoured that the team offered such a gesture for her.
“She would have been so proud to hear that,” said Joanne. “We were all totally shocked, because we never expected anything like that.
“It is such a lovely thing for them to do, and she would have loved it. She wasn’t really into F1 when she took the job there, but really got behind the team, went to Silverstone with them every year, and it would have meant a lot to her.”
Erin passed away at Willen Hospice last week, and her family have created a JustGiving page for people to give money to the charity.
