MURDER INVESTIGATION: Man arrested after death in flat fire

A murder investigation is underway after a man died in a fourth-floor flat fire last night.

The man, believed to be in his thirties, was found dead in Trevithick Court, Wolverton, at around 11.40pm.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

More than 30 firefighters battled the flames, while police set up a scene watch and conducted enquiries.

Detective Superintendent Chris Ward said: “A murder investigation is now underway and forensic work is ongoing at the scene.

“We are at the early stages of our investigation but initial enquiries suggest that the offender and the victim were known to each other.

“We are working to establish the exact circumstances of the man’s death and I would ask anyone who has any information to contact police via the 101 number as soon as possible.

“Residents may notice an increased police presence in the area as officers continue making enquiries. If anyone has any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to officers on patrol.”
