The Mursley Sports Association is generously sponsoring a FREE Diamond Jubilee commemorative china cup for every child in Mursley under the age of 16 as part of the village’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

According to the electoral role there are 483 adult residents in the little village of Mursley, but there was no up to date information about the number of children living in the village.

Mursley’s Diamond Jubilee organisers set off to knock on every door to find out how many children aged from 0 to 16 live in Mursley. Amazingly they found 126 of them! That’s a 26 per cent ratio, proving what a thriving village community exists in Mursley.

Nigel Peat Chairman of Mursley Sports Association said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and look forward to purchasing 126 cups”.

Mursley will be celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee in style during the afternoon of Monday, June 4 with a parade through the village led by the Devils Horsemen pulling two royal carriages with the Mursley Diamond Jubilee King and Queen inside followed by floats representing the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and a host of vintage cars. Main Street will be closed to all traffic and full of market stalls and demonstrations, fairground rides and displays. Then in the evening there is a ‘ticket only’ event in and around the Big Top. During in the evening, there will be a torchlight procession to light the jubilee beacon led by fire eaters and a fire stilt walker – before returning to the Big Top to hear Cheryl Hawkins performing Mursley’s own ‘Last Night at the Proms’.
