Young children at a Milton Keynes youth centre are celebrating the completion of an improved garden area thanks to construction and infrastructure company, Morgan Sindall.
Members of staff from Morgan Sindall’s Welwyn Garden City office took time out of their working day to lend a helping hand in refurbishing the overgrown garden at Bletchley Youth Centre.
The team spent a week clearing the space to install a BBQ area, an allotment patch, new benching and fitted lighting to provide the centre’s 554 members with their very own outdoor chill-out zone.
The youngsters’ creative talents were put to use as they designed a number of pieces of artwork to be displayed on the garden’s surrounding walls. Morgan Sindall marked the completion of the garden with a celebratory BBQ, where the youth centre’s members and staff were able to thank the team of volunteers for their efforts.
The refurbishment was carried out as part of Morgan Sindall’s Neighbourhood Week - a charity initiative organised at each of the company’s UK offices, which saw teams of Morgan Sindall staff transform spaces for local good causes.
The centre, which provides social and informal educational opportunities through a variety of mediums including sport and arts for young people aged between 10 and 19 years old, was delighted when Morgan Sindall offered its support.
Debbie Scott, Bletchley Youth Centre management team member, said: “The fabulous garden created for the young people and other members of the community who use the Centre has reached far beyond our expectations. We are extremely thankful to the team from Morgan Sindall for selecting us for their 2012 makeover.”
Project support came from a variety of local sub-contractors including Graffic, RAK Carpentry, Precision Brickwork and Darke and Taylor.
Bob Ensch, area director for Morgan Sindall, said: “The Neighbourhood Week has been a huge success across the region allowing Morgan Sindall to help out with community causes. We’re delighted to have been able to support Bletchley Youth Centre which offers a fantastic service to youngsters in the area.”
