A UNIQUE scheme to champion unsigned musicians and bands is set to be launched by a Milton Keynes retailer.
Furniture Village in Cairngorm Gate Retail Park, Central Milton Keynes will be playing music from new acts during the New Years Sales period, which lasts from January to March.
A spokesman for the retailer, which will be launching the scheme in 40 stores throughout the country, said the project is an antidote to the overkill of Christmas music.
She said: “Each act whose music is selected to be played over the in-store PA system will be showcased online within the Furniture Village website, with links to their own sites and information for new fans.
“Bands and performers will also have their musical contributions prioritised for playing within Furniture Village branches close to their home towns or performance bases.”
Interested musicians can apply to have their music considered for the playlist by visiting the dedicated page within the online Furniture Village magazine.
Each act or artist whose music is selected will be showcased online, with links to their own sites and information for new fans.
Director of Marketing at Furniture Village, Charlie Harrison, said: “We are emerging from the Festive period when the nation has had its fill of Christmas musical classics, and it seemed an excellent opportunity to revolutionise the traditional role of in-store music, and offer audio exposure for emerging talents to a new and significant market.
“This might just provide a big break in the new year for the next Adele, JLS, or budding Bacharach.”
And Stewart Anderson, the creator of Unsigned Bands Online, a digital platform designed to promote such bands, added: “Nowadays unsigned bands and businesses alike need to network and find ways in which to benefit each other, in this market publicity for a band is a real currency and I’m happy to see such creative collaborations beginning to flourish.”
