New road safety area unveiled in response to fatal collisions in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Council’s Road Safety Team donated £10,000 to the Safety Centre in 2014 following three fatal collisions involving pedestrians.

The purpose of the new road safety area is to educate local pupils and adults about pedestrian safety especially when crossing the road.

A further £10,000 was provided by the council to subsidise the cost of school visits for Years 5 & 6 to encourage and facilitate as many MK schools as possible taking part.

“I am delighted to see this new road safety section opening at the Safety Centre,” said Cllr Liz Gifford.

“It’s so important to educate everybody about road safety particularly school children as they often walk or cycle to school on a daily basis”

“By giving them the right message now about road safety they can keep themselves and others safe when out and about.”

Jo Green from the Safety Centre added: “This new area teaches children how to cross and be safe near roads.

“The children who come here enjoy learning about safety through discussion, role-play and practical activities.”
