Olney boys enjoy Saints day out
PICTURED above are Olney’s U8 rugby youngsters who reached the final of the Northampton Saints tournament last month.
Given the lunchtime kick-off for the Saints’ televised Heineken Cup match against Glasgow, the Olney kids had to be ready to go at 8.30am on a Sunday morning.
The event was hotly contested by 22 teams from around the region at Franklin’s Gardens, including two from Olney, but despite the early start, they were not caught napping as both sides put in fantastic performances to reach the semi finals.
For Olney 2nds that was where their competition ended as they lost out to Rushden, but the 1sts beat Towcester to progress to the final.
The final was a close contest with a late turnover making the difference as Olney were beaten 4-2 by Rushden & Higham.
However, the Olney boys were still able to go onto the pitch at half time to receive their well deserved medals and runners-up trophy.
