Paying tribute to John at special Danes show
Not only was he one of the finest musicians but Sir John Dankworth was also a passionate supporter of others.
If he believed in a talent he liked to nurture and support it, and the Danesborough Chorus are a case in point.
Sir John, who passed away in February was the choir's president – a position he held since it's foundation 34 years ago.
No flash in the pan showmanship for John. He would far rather stick his name next to something he believed in for the long haul.
He loved music, famously saying 'there is only one sort of music - and that's good music.'
Now Danesborough Chorus will pay tribute to the great man with a special concert this Saturday, performing one of the pieces that Sir John had written for them: "We gave All the World's A Stage its world premiere in Woburn Parish Church on 25 June 1988," said conductor Ian Smith,
"Sir John Dankworth believed in blurring the boundaries between different musical genres, and this work is a perfect example of jazz, folk and classical fusion!"
The performance at St Mary's Church in Woburn will also include Beethoven's Symphony No8 and John Rutter's Requiem.
The choir will be accompanied by the MK City Orchestra and Soprano Claire Seaton will feature.
Tickets are 18, 15 and 10 with concessions available.
Call MK 583460 to book and remember to bring strawberries and champagne for the interval – it's a summer tradition...
