Piper takes the first steps into New Year

THE New Year was welcomed in with a song and a dance by a Scottish dance group.

The Thistle Scottish Country Dancers joined Scottish dancers from near and far to see in the New Year with traditional Hogmanay celebrations.

The dancing was briefly interrupted at midnight for a piper to lead in the First Footer – usually the owner of the establishment from Scottish folklore – and plenty of glasses of bubbly were passed round to toast in the New Year. 2011 sees Thistle Club’s regular Wednesday sessions move to a new venue at Shenley Brook End Village Hall. Dancing is from 8pm and anyone wanting to give it a try is always made very welcome.

Preparations are underway for various Burns Night celebrations later in January and the dancers join MK Royal Scottish Dance Society for their Annual Ball in March.
