A police helicopter is flying over Newport Pagnell in search of an illegal immigrant.

It is believed the man jumped out from a lorry at Newport Pagnell services this morning.

Police were alerted by concerned members of the public who reported seeing a man acting suspiciously in Gayhurst at around 11am.

The search then moved over to Hanslope where one resident told the Citizen: “There have been police cars flying about all around us. There was even a helicopter circling ahead.

“An officer came and looked round our land. They said they were looking for man who they think jumped out the back of lorry at the service station.”

Officers are currently carrying out house to house enquires and doing a search of the nearby area, while the helicopter flies overhead.

There have been 20 illegal immigrants arrested at the service station in the past 24 hours.

Yesterday, a total of 17 people were arrested there on suspicion of entering the country illegally.

Today at 11.45am, a further three people were taken into custody before being transferred to the UK Border Force.

Police still searching the surrounding area of Newport Pagnell are calling on the public to get in touch if they see anyone acting suspiciously. Call 101.
