OFFICERS from Thames Valley Police have set up two cordons in the city as they investigate an assault.

A 25-year-old man was found unconscious outside the Xscape building around 9am this morning and police at the scene suggested he may have been hit over the head with a baseball bat.

The man was airlifted to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford where he remains for now.

Officers have set up cordons around two scenes. One is outside the Xscape building and the second is at Bossiney Place, Fishermead, where it is believed the attack took place.

Det Insp Kelly Glister, investigating, said: “I understand that the victim’s injuries are not life threatening and our officers will be speaking to him in due course.

“We are currently looking at a number of lines of inquiry, but there is nothing to indicate the attack is linked to the shootings which took place in Fishermead last month.

“At present it does not appear that this was a random attack and I would urge anyone living in or around Bossiney Place who saw or heard a disturbance this morning to contact me on 0845 8 505 505 or if you don’t want to give your name, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
