It was their best-selling branded item last year – so children’s theme park company Gulliver’s is taking no chances when it comes to ordering waterproof ponchos just in case there are showers in store this summer.
2011’s showery summer saw the company, which has parks in Warrington, Matlock Bath and Milton Keynes, sell more than 3,000 plastic ponchos at £1.50 a pop as families flocked to cover up during the downpours.
This weekend, theme park staff will place an order for 3,500 of the ponchos in case of another washout summer – but they are hoping all 3,500 remain unsold as the UK is bathed in sunshine!
Gulliver’s managing director Julie Dalton said: “I’m hoping to find myself counting up all our unsold ponchos after getting the summer we all deserve.
“Hopefully the only use for our ponchos will be for parents who forget to bring their swimming costumes to join in the fun in our SplashZone water play factories or those who want to stay dry on the Log Flume – but we are nevertheless prepared for a spot of rain in case it does happen.”
Gulliver’s Warrington and Milton Keynes parks are now open for half term, while its SplashZone indoor water play attractions are open throughout the year.
All three parks will be open throughout the Easter break.
