A man was slapped in the face as he waited for help next to his broken down car.

The 37-year-old was on the phone to arrange recovery when a man with shoulder-length dreadlocks tried to snatch the mobile from his hand.

Passerbys leapt to his defence - managing to stop the offender from stealing the phone. Police would now like to speak to those involved to build up a bigger picture of what happened.

During the assault at around 4pm on Saturday, the victim’s blue Proton Impian was sat in the middle lane of the V4 Watling Street at the junction with Bilton Road.

The offender is black, with shoulder length dreadlocks.

He was wearing a green T-shirt and brown trousers.

He was driving a silver Vauxhall estate vehicle.

The victim did not require hospital treatment following the assault.

PC Michael Edmonds said: “I would like to speak to those members of the public who intervened during the assault, which happened in V4 Watling Street at the junction with Bilton Road at about 4pm on Saturday.”
