On January 3 this year, Rob Winn was appointed to the brand new post of Pioneer Missioner, and is one of only 14 ‘Venture FX pioneer’ posts in the country.
His brief will be to build community among young adults in the city and provide opportunities to explore spirituality. Rob has moved from Oxford where part of his work included setting up creative prayer installations, offering creative worship opportunities in the late evening and helping to set up the Oxford Street Pastors initiative.
Rob said: “My wife and I have found Milton Keynes to be a very welcoming city with plenty of enthusiasm for trying new things”
This new role is part of Venture FX; a national scheme set up by the Methodist Church.
The national coordinator Ian Bell said: “I am excited that the Methodist Church has the vision and determination to pursue such a ground-breaking and risky project.”
Locally, the project is supported by all the major Christian denominations and is in partnership with many other local organisations including the YMCA and the University Centre.
Rob said; “I believe that many young adults are very interested in spirituality but most are not engaging with the traditional models of church. My aim is to provide people with the opportunity to explore their faith in ways which are culturally relevant to them.”
What shape the project will eventually take is both exciting and unknown, but the people behind it are confident that whatever happens, it will be good news for the city.
