Rowing for miles without moving an inch

Staff and customers at Bletchley Leisure Centre will be rowing for Sport Relief without going near a drop of water.

The Centre in Princes Way, Bletchley, will be holding a Row a Mile for Sport Relief challenge in the foyer on Friday from 10am to 5pm. For a small donation, customers will have the chance to beat the Centre’s fitness instructor and row a mile on one of the two rowing machines available.

Staff have also been busy baking and will hold a cake stall at the Centre for all those hungry after completing their one mile row for Sport Relief.

The Centre’s eight lane, 25 metre swimming pool will also play host to Swimathon for the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief on Saturday, April 28 from 5pm to 7.30pm and then from 7.30pm to 10pm.

Participants choose between swimming as far as they can within the two hours or setting themselves their own personal challenge.

The Centre, managed by Hertsmere Leisure in partnership with Milton Keynes Council, is one of only two Milton Keynes pools to be awarded host status for Swimathon 2012 and is 70th out of the 121 pools hosting the event In the South East League Table, based on entry percentage. There are still 96 places available.

Centre Manager Sarah Clark said: “We are excited to be supporting Sport Relief this year. It is a great opportunity to keep active while raising money for such a good cause.”
