ELLIOTT Barron wowed the judges last week as his lamp landed the coveted Siemens Upcycling challenge prize.

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.

In a bid to redefine design, and reinforce the environmental credentials of Siemens home appliances, the company commissioned a project with the Art and Design course at Milton Keynes College in association with Max McMurdo of Reestore.com.

Elliott’s freestanding lamp, named Fiona, has been constructed using parts from inside a Siemens dishwasher and took the prize ahead of 47 other entries. As the winner, Elliott won £1,000 of selected Siemens products, course credit and a CV reference from Max McMurdo.
