MILTON Keynes has been awarded Silver in the Large City category at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom Awards for 2011.

TV gardener and presenter Rachel De Thame hosted the prestigious RHS Awards Ceremony held in St Andrew’s, Scotland, and attended by a record-breaking 470 community and gardening champions.

Mike Brown, assistant director of Neighbourhood Services, said: “I am delighted that Milton Keynes is recognised as a great place to live with wonderful open spaces creating that feel good factor.”

David Foster, chief executive of The Parks Trust, Milton Keynes, said he was proud of the effort his team had put into making Milton Keynes bloom.

He said: “Milton Keynes’ parks really are the heart and soul of the city and going forward to the finals has been a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate how incredibly proud we are of our green spaces.”
