Sion’s charity push for Macmillan is a runaway success in Milton Keynes

Argos employee Sion Harper completed the challenge of running 107 miles from the retailer’s head office in Milton Keynes, Bognor Regis last week, in an attempt to raise £10,000 for Argos’s charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

After four days of running across six counties, he arrived at the Argos staff conference in Bognor Regis on Thursday. Luckily, Sion didn’t have to face this massive challenge alone, as he was joined by his parents for the last three days of the run and his daughter was there at the finish line to congratulate and welcome him too.

Sion made his way to the conference stage just in time to receive a hero’s welcome from Davina McCall, who was hosting the conference on behalf of Argos.

So far Sion has raised nearly £8,000. If he is successful in reaching his target, the £10,000 will be enough to fund 357 Macmillan nursing hours, helping Macmillan to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.

Sion said: “This was a really tough challenge, not just because of the run itself, but because of the preparation involved, as I ran over 400 miles in training alone! It’s been totally worth it though, because I hope to raise £10,000 to help Macmillan, who do such amazing work for people with cancer across the UK.

“It really meant a lot having Mum and Dad join me for the final leg, and it was lovely to meet Davina McCall at the end of it all – even though I was exhausted at the time!”

Catriona Munn, Senior Partnership Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support added: “Here at Macmillan we are so grateful for all the support we’ve received from Argos colleagues and their customers. Without amazing people like Sion we couldn’t do what we do, so we want to say a massive thank you to Sion and everyone who supported him.

Since voting to support Macmillan as their UK charity partner last year, Argos colleagues and customers across the UK have raised £1.5 million, funding over 53,000 hours of Macmillan nursing care to help provide even more support for people affected by cancer.
