MILTON Keynes Mayor Alan Richards was the guest of honour at a photography exhibition celebrating the work of students from Slated Row School.
Councillor Richards attended a preview event for the exhibition at Madcap Theatre in Wolverton on Friday (March 2). The pictures will be displayed at the theatre for the next month.
Six students from the school were given the opportunity to attend a photography workshop during a free period in their timetable.
No technical skills as such were required, rather a willingness to learn a bit more about photography and a willingness to use a camera as a tool for self expression.
The classes were run by city photographer Andra Alexander and consisted of six two hour workshops, based around the theme of Self Expression.
The students were all involved in the full photographic process, including composition, editing, lighting and staging photographs in a way that was personal to the individual.
Students used props, personal possessions and created abstract images using objects found in their immediate school environment. Each student answered a short questionnaire giving a small insight into their world, often in a good humoured way. This is incorporated in the exhibition in the place of where one would ordinarily see an artists biography.
One of the students is wheelchair bound and, in spite of physical difficulty, contributed significantly to the overall project objectives.
