Sammy Jones takes a look at the approaching Bloodstock Festival, happening at Catton Park this August...
It’s the heaviest metal festival on the calendar, and the annual Bloodstock roar is right around the corner.
In 2013, organisers have bagged some serious A-list headliners, King Diamond and Lamb of God will headline Froday and Saturday respectfully, with Slayer rounding up an awesome weekend on the Sunday.
The thrash stalwarts will make their first appearance on British soil since the devastating loss of their founder guitarist Jeff Hanneman, in May.
Anthrax will also contribute to the bill bursting with metal brilliance, and it’s one that also sees Exodus, Gojira, Devildriver, Municipal Waste, Death Angel, Sacred Mother Tongue, Avantsia, 3 Inches of Blood and Whitechapel play.
Aside from the all-important live stuff, the 15,000 visitors will have their attentions taken at the international metal market of stalls, not to mention fairground rides, battle re-enactments, a skate ramp, metal and t-shirt amnesty, and raffle – courtesy of charity partner, The Teenage Cancer Trust.
VIP ticket holders will also be able to rub shoulders with the bands on the bill, over in the wonderfully titled Serpents Lair bar.
Those VIP tickets also allow access to a whole load of other festival fabulousness – your camp site will be adjacent to the main stage, so no need to endure a half hour trek to the action, and you’ll get free hot showers and the all-important ‘proper’ toilet facilities.
Those hardy festival go-ers among you will know just how important they are!
You’ll also go home with a t-shirt, lanyard and goodie bag, and on-site will get discount on Bloodstock merchandise, can queue jump at the artist signing tent and enjoy late night Club Serpent entertainment right through to 3am.
Bloodstock is fast establishing itself as a firm favourite with metal fans who like a lot of bang for their heavy buck.
Bloodsdtock takes place at Catton Park in Derbyshire, in easy distance of Milton Keynes terrors looking for a weekend of action.
Tickets are on sale now at £125 (plus booking fee) for a weekend pass with camping.
VIP packages and upgrades are also available.
